Grand Central Terminal sits at the center of Manhattan's commuter universe, and yet some of the best food in the city is hiding just a few blocks north. Atto Sushi, at 875 3rd Avenue, Lower Level, is roughly five minutes on foot from Grand Central's main entrance — an easy walk before you catch your train, or a destination worth building your evening around. For commuters who know their sushi, Atto has become the stop before the stop.
Omakase Worth the Detour from Grand Central
Atto isn't a grab-and-go counter. It's a proper omakase restaurant where every detail — from the aging of the fish to the temperature of the rice — is considered. The kitchen uses traditional Edomae techniques, the style of sushi that was born in Edo-era Tokyo and perfected in the fish markets along Tokyo Bay. What that means for you: rice seasoned with red vinegar, fish that's been cured, aged, or marinated to deepen its character, and a pacing that lets each piece land as its own small event.
Fish comes directly from Japan several times a week. The difference between fish that traveled from Japan to a top distributor and what most Manhattan restaurants actually put on their rice is enormous. At Atto, we close that gap by sourcing the same grades that supply Tokyo's neighborhood sushiya, then dry-aging in-house to develop flavors you won't encounter at the average sushi spot.

The Business Lunch Near Grand Central
Atto's lunch service runs Monday through Friday, 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM. For anyone whose office is in the 40s and 50s east of Fifth Avenue, it's one of the best lunch options in range. Our lunch specials — 5 nigiri for $30 or 8 nigiri for $50 — are generous, fast enough for a working lunch, and memorable enough to talk about afterward. The Lunch Omakase (8 courses, $85) is ideal when you have more time and want the full progression.
Dinner Before the Commute Home
Dinner runs Monday through Saturday, 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. If you're catching a Metro-North or LIRR train from Grand Central, consider building your schedule around a meal at Atto first. The Dinner Omakase — 12 courses at $115 — typically runs 75 to 90 minutes, leaving you time to reach Grand Central for a later departure. Book the reservation, then buy your train ticket around it.
