If you live in Murray Hill, Kips Bay, the East 30s and 40s, or anywhere a young professional in NYC actually rents, you've probably scanned the omakase market and concluded the same thing: most of it is either inflated for the Instagram crowd or out of reach on a normal salary. Atto Sushi is the alternative — an actual Edomae-style omakase counter in Midtown East where the lunch starts at $30 and the full dinner omakase is $115. Not cheap. Not cheap-looking. Honestly priced for what it is.
What You're Actually Paying For
Atto runs an in-house aging program — select fish are aged under controlled temperature and humidity, drawing on Edomae curing techniques to deepen flavor and soften texture. That's the technique that distinguishes the $300 omakase counters in NYC from the $40 strip-mall sushi place. We do it at $115. Rice is seasoned with red vinegar and pressed at a temperature meant to be eaten immediately. Chef hands the piece directly to you across the counter.
The Right Order at the Right Price
Lunch — Start Here
The Hachi Set (8 nigiri + 1 roll, miso soup or salad) at $30 is the easiest entry point. The Atto Style set (10 deluxe nigiri) is $50. Both are available Monday through Friday, 11:00 AM to 2:45 PM. For the price of two beers at a Murray Hill bar, you're getting a serious sushi lunch. If you want the full progression, Lunch Omakase at $85 (13 courses) is the move.
Date Night — The Counter Plan
Two seats at the counter, the Dinner Omakase for both ($115 each), one bottle of sake split between you, ~90 minutes start to finish. That's the date night. It's the kind of dinner that's the entire evening, not the prelude to something else. Counter seats are the move — you watch the chef work, the conversation builds naturally, and you walk out remembering the meal.
Casual After-Work Dinner
If you don't want to commit to a full omakase, dinner runs Monday through Friday from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM (Saturday 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM). À la carte nigiri, sashimi platters, a few rolls, a glass of sake or a Sapporo — easily a sub-$60 dinner that's still genuinely better than what your neighborhood spot is putting out.
The Sake List Is Organized for People Who Don't Already Know Sake
Our sake list is grouped by flavor profile — Light & Crisp, Fruity & Floral, Earthy & Savory, Unique — so you can pick something based on what you actually want to taste, not the prefecture you can't pronounce. If you've been intimidated by sake menus, this is the one where you'll figure out what you like. Beer and cocktails available too.
